So, lets talk about some not so smart choices done by manufactures from a sales stand point.
I work for a power-sports dealer that sells Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Honda. We are, by volume, the largest Kawasaki dealer in Ontario.
We USED to sell Bombardier products. (Sea-doo, Ski-doo, Can-am) and we were dam good at it too. We were #1 in southern Ontario for them.
This year, BRP decided that they wanted ALL of their dealers to become JUST BRP dealers. No other brands. If the dealer refused to comply, the sales contract got pulled
. We used to do 300 units for them a year. and now...jack.
Honda tried much the same thing in the mid 2000s. It didnt go well for them.
What is the mentality behind this? ‘cant
compare to our competitors”? If your product is good, you should be fine with this, because then its an easier sell!
I think 40% of the calls I feild in a day are sea-doo/can-am calls. I should keep track and send them an email about it XD

I don’t know how well/bad BRP is doing but they just announced like a week ago that they would open another factory for SXS vehicles in Juarez, Chihuahua so.... I don’t know if it has a ffected them yet.

In my opinion this is a bad business decision. trek and Specialized are doing this in big sales markets with bicycles. The store becomes a “specialized” store and by contract they can’t sell any other big brands but for some reason they can still sell boutique brands that compete directly with their high end offerings. They also have to meet sales metrics so stores are forced to purchase a certain value of product a year like say $100,000 worth of bikes and merchandise.

Perhaps they’re going for exclusivity like some car or motorcycle brands like to do with some dealers . No no, can’t buy a BRP product at a powersports dealer that sells everything, you have to go to a BRP dealer. I'd agree that it's probably dumb in the long run.

Bombardier shooting themselves in the foot? Wouldn’t be the first time, and with the government propping them up on occasion, it probably wouldn’t be the last.*
* Yes, I realize the aviation company/arm is different, but this was too much fun to not post.
Really, I see a move like that being absolutely stupid. If you can’t compete directly, fix your product. Don’t waste resources trying to fix your sales - let a better product do that.

weirdly, the product IS good and it has the brand recognition
to the point where the NAME is confused for the machine.
what it is, is that they arent reliable. they require far more down time and are simply more maintenance in
tensive. The ducatis of the off-road powersports worlds.

Sounds a bit like Harley Davidson in that regard. Great brand recognition, although it sounds like they haven’t yet become a clothing manufacturer that also makes weekend toys.

My rule of thumb in Hawaii was, if it has a small engine, I buy a Honda (dive compressor, generator.. .) My friend has a couple big Hondas for going out spear fishing and towing in surfing.
I am looking at a propane outboard from Japan right now by Tohat su , and I learned they have been making engines for a long time and even make engines for other brands we know up to certain HP, the things you learn. Apparently there are a lot of engine deals going on between marine engine manufacturers.

Could your companu perhaps split the dealership? One side selling Bombardier stuff and the other selling the rest. The local car dealerships have been doing this since certain brands started requesting exclusive sales areas.

If they lose a lot of dealers they might get back to you later on. Their decision doesn’t sound very wise.
